How to Add Color to Your Knitting Projects

Once you have mastered the technique of knitting something in one color, you will want to go to the next step, which is learning how to add color to your knitting. You might want to knit stripes or knit something with two colors. It isn't as difficult as you might think, and once you've done it a few times you will wonder why you never attempted it before.

Here's what you do to add some color.

You are at the beginning of the row where you want to add another color.

1. Take the new color and make a loop over the needle.
2. Fold the loop over the needle and knit it off.
3. Put the new color UNDER the old color so it won't leave a hole.
4. Using the new yarn, including the tail of the loop, knitBOTH yarns together for 3 or 4 stitches.
5. Continue knitting until you get to the end of the row.
6. Turn the work around.
7. Purl back.
8. When you get towards the end of the row and come to the stitches that are double (from the tail being knitted in), purl them as one being careful not to separate them. If you do separate them, you will be adding stitches, which you don't want to do.

• The reason you knit the tail in is because when you do that, you areWEAVING THE END IN and you don't have to worry about it or do it later. It's done!
