This means that any number of stitches that you want to cast on for you project must be divisible by 3 plus 2 extra stitches to create the selvage. Purl the first 2 stitches of row 1 then begin the repeating pattern of yarn over, knit 1 stitch, yarn over, purl 2 stitches. Repeat this pattern until the end of the row. This will be the right side of your knitting. In knitting abbreviation row 1 is: p2, *yo, k1, yo, p2*, repeat ** until the end of the row. Knit the first 2 stitches of row 2 then begin the following pattern of purling 3 stitches, knitting 2 stitches until the end of the row. Row 2: k2, *p3, k2*, repeat ** until end of the row. Purl the first 2 stitches in row 3 and begin the pattern of knitting 3 and purling 2 stitches until the end of the row. Row 3: p2, *k3, p2*, repeat ** until end. Knit 2 stitches at the beginning of row 4 then begin the pattern of purling 3 stitches together and knitting 2 stitches. Continue this pattern until the end of the row. Row 4: k2, *p3tog, k2*, repeat ** until end. Repeat steps 2 through 5 until your project is the length that you want it and bind off. Following this simple procedure, you should have a perfect puffed ribs knit!
